Radios At Work Series - Restaurants/Lounges

What radios did we find most often in medium to larger sit down restaurants/lounges?
No surprise here, the Motorola CLS Series wins hands down. While the bulk of the radios observed were the Motorola CLS1110, the Motorola CLS1410 was seen often among the managers and hosts. What was the most observed accessory? Again, this was no surprise to us. It was our top selling Motorola accessory, the Motorola 56517 over the ear, push to talk headset.
We wish we had more to report, however the simple fact is, Motorola CLS Series radios (CLS1110 & CLS1410) and the Motorola 56517 accessory, dominate in the medium to larger sit down restaurants/lounges arena.

The Definitive Short Course On Buying Two-Way Radios

Defining Terms:
Before you can begin to choose which On-Site Two-Way Radio is best suited for your situation, you have to gain at the very least a minimal understanding of how exactly they work and the differences between them. Below are some terms and their short definitions that will be used in greater detail later.

Now let's elaborate on the above definitions and how each factor in your decision as to what On-Site Two-Way Radio you should buy.

UHF On-Site Two-Way Radios - DO NOT WORK WITH - VHF On-Site Two-Way Radios

UHF On-Site Two-Way Radios: Hands Down, UHF radios work best for indoor environments because of their ability to penetrate walls and ceilings better than VHF radios. They are also well suited in outdoor environments that have many obstructions in the area such as large cities. In Fact, UHF On-Site Two-Way Radios perform well in both indoor and outdoor environments.

VHF On-Site Two-Way Radios: So, if UHF radios work so well indoors as well as outdoors, why would I ever consider buying VHF On-Site Two-Way Radios? One reason, VHF radio waves, along a clear line of sight, travel nearly twice the distance of UHF radio waves. This one difference can be important if your trade is for example ranching, road construction or surveying and your work is mostly over clear unobstructed land.

Transmit Power (WATTs): Simply, the greater the transmit power, in Watts, the greater the area or distance that can be covered by an on-site two-way radio. Your only consideration is price, as the higher the Watts, the higher the price. You can check the specifications of the individual on-site two-way radios to determine how many Watts suits your particular situation best.

How many Channels?: Selecting the correct number of channels is probably the hardest part. Why? because few people consider all the situations related to channel needs until they see that need, first hand after purchase. For example, you might consider having a few radios, for management, with more channels than the rest of the radios. This provides the ability of private channels, for management, that would not be available on the other on-site two-way radios with fewer channels. Again, you can check the specifications of the individual on-site two-way radios to determine how many channels suits your particular situation best.
